If ever a word more needed to be heard by a fractured world, then this is it.
If ever a word is being so cynically ignored by those with the power to make peace, but choose war as the way to assert power, this is it.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5.9)
Working on Panel 6 of the Beatitudes tapestry. But actually, this verse sits at the precise centre of how I see Christian witness being practiced.
This inludes but is not limited to:
an inner hospitality of the mind to others’ ways of seeing the world,
a conscience alert to injustice,
conciliation as the modus operandi of the words we speak,
careful stewardship of our money to enable and encourage the common good,
not acts of random kindness but acts of intentional, strategic habits of kindness,
an enacted hopefulness by caring about what happens to people and looking for ways to turn such care into a different reality for them.
And so on.
And on.
